Stephen Langton played a central
role in the creation of Magna Carta. Langton
identified in the Bible that a citizen At the time king John was seen as being crooked. The people of that time were demanding freedom, freedoms which were echoed in the Bible. Langton used the Coronation Charter, a document written in the previous century by king Henry I. |
In Langton's and king John's times, the then largely French barons had overthrown Anglo Saxon rule in England; dispossessed the people and stolen their land. The barons were not on the side of the people, and the Coronation Charter was about to come to their aid. It would play a vital role in the formation of Magna Carta. |

Church
of England split with Rome
Dissolution of the monasteries in England took place between 1536-40. Over 800 monasteries were closed during the reformation, but is it clear why? Officially we are told the pope would not grant king Henry VIII a divorce. However, there are other matters to consider; such as vatican ideas on doctrine, and widespread idolatry within the Romish system. Even now it would seem Catholicism venerates the mother before Jesus. Then as now perhaps just one more reason why England chose to break away. |

Becket
Mystery exists between Becket (12th century Archbishop of Canterbury) and Henry II. Their public argument regarding the administration of justice would later force Becket into exile, lead to his brutal murder; and likely shape the inspiration of those helping to compose Magna Carta. |
